Through its work, the firm is helping to shape a future where India's water resources are managed responsibly, and every citizen has access to clean water and sanitation—ultimately contributing to healthier communities, more sustainable cities, and a greener planet.
SMPCS draws its inspiration from its parent company M/s. SMP Group which was founded in the year 1999 that was primarily engaging in the water industry specifically focussing on the chlorination process, water supply contracting jobs including the augmentation & repairing work of the supply system.
SMP Group began its journey with a modest team of engineers and consultants but quickly grew as it took on increasingly complex and high-profile projects. The firm’s first major success came from its involvement in a government-funded project aimed at improving water supply systems in semi-urban areas, where outdated infrastructure and water scarcity were major challenges. The success of this project helped SMPCS build a reputation for delivering practical, reliable, and timely solutions, and it laid the groundwork for further expansion into more diverse areas of water management, including urban wastewater treatment and stormwater drainage systems.
Gradually SMP Group started spreading its operational wings across the geographies of India and outside India as well. SMP Group achieved its first round of diversification in the year 2009, when it bagged the water supply and sewerage consultancy work though the Govt. of Maharashtra’s water management and reforms project - flagship initiative “Maharashtra Sujal Nirmal Abhiyan (MSNA)”
SMP Group bagged the work under MSNA scheme in 10 municipal councils. The work under the MSNA primarily dealt with multiple things including but not limited to: Consumer Survey, Water Audit, Energy Audit, flowmeter installation at field, GIS mapping of the assets ensuring the continuous pressured water supply to the geographical area. This was the era when pathbreaking initiatives were getting introduced in the water supply sector. It takes proud in mentioning that SMP Group was one of the first few consultants to propose the concept of GIS based hydraulic modelling for 24X7 water supply to the districts.
In the year 2019, SM Polymers in JV with M/s. Paramhans Consulting Pvt. Ltd., got empanelled under the Govt. of India’s flagship programme, Jal Jeevan Mission, as the Govt. approved consultant in the state of Maharashtra, to execute the consultancy work in the entire Maharashtra state. Till date, the SMP group is one of the few consulting organizations in India, having executed the consultancy work of water supply and sewerage work of cumulative programmes worth than 2000 Cr.
SMP Group is today one of the MSME registered firm with Govt. of India. doing the consultancy work and registered as technically qualified consultants with Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP), Urban Development Department, Swachh Bharat Mission, Madhya Pradesh PWD Dept. etc. It must be understood, that SMP Group is now a synonymous name with the core expertise in the field of water management, water chlorination, water and sewerage consultancy work for more than two decades now.
The latest round of re-organization happened with the formation of M/s. SM Polymer Consultancy Services Pvt. Ltd. (SMPCS) in the year 2022, with a clear vision: to address the critical and growing challenges of water supply and sewerage management in India.
The founders, a group of seasoned professionals with extensive experience in the water, civil engineering, and environmental sectors, recognized the urgent need for specialized consultancy services to tackle India’s water crisis. Their combined expertise in engineering, project management, and policy advocacy provided the foundation for SMPCS’s core mission: to offer innovative, sustainable, and socially inclusive solutions for managing water resources and sewerage infrastructure.
Over the years, SMPCS has expanded its service offerings to meet the evolving needs of its clients in both public and private sectors. Initially focused on designing and implementing basic water supply systems, the company has broadened its scope to include a comprehensive range of consultancy services, such as:
Water Resource Management: The firm develops strategies for the optimal use and allocation of water resources, including surface water, groundwater, and rainwater harvesting. SMPCS’s expertise in hydrological modelling and water auditing allows it to create sustainable, data- driven solutions that maximize water use efficiency.
Sewerage and Wastewater Treatment: With increasing urbanization, SMPCS recognized the growing demand for effective sewerage and wastewater management systems. The firm now specializes in the design, implementation, and optimization of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), sewage pumping stations, and sewer networks, ensuring compliance with environmental standards.
• Stormwater Drainage Systems: To address the growing issue of urban flooding due to inadequate drainage infrastructure, SMPCS provides consultancy services for the planning and design of stormwater drainage systems that mitigate flood risks and enhance urban resilience to extreme weather events.
Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA): As regulatory compliance and environmental sustainability have become more critical, SMPCS assists clients in conducting EIAs for water- related projects. These assessments ensure that projects minimize their environmental footprint and comply with national and international environmental standards.
Capacity Building and Training: Recognizing the importance of human resources in managing water infrastructure, SMPCS offers training and capacity-building services to government bodies, municipal corporations, and private firms. These programs focus on equipping stakeholders with the knowledge and skills required to maintain and operate water supply and sewerage systems efficiently.
As SMPCS expanded, it also invested heavily in technology and innovation. The company has integrated advanced Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Internet of Things (IoT) sensors, and big data analytics into its service offerings, enabling real-time monitoring and control of water supply systems. This focus on innovation has allowed SMPCS to offer state-of-the-art solutions that enhance the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of water and sewerage infrastructures.
